Move-DatabasePath error ‘WMI exception occurred on server’

Today I discovered a problem affecting the migration of a database path to a new location in Exchange 2010. After running the Move-DatabasePath cmdlet and specifying the -LogFilePath and -EdbFilePath parameters, I was faced with an error which read:

Failed to connect to target server “DDExch”. Error: WMI exception occurred on server ‘DDExch.DDAD.local’:
Call cancelled
+ CategoryInfo          : InvalidOperation: (DDDB02 Live:DatabaseIdParameter) [Move-DatabasePath], InvalidOperatio

How to Move an Exchange Server 2013 Database to a New Location

The database is located in the Mailbox folder of the Exchange installation path, which by default is the C: drive therefore a mailbox database will be placed in a path such as:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 1

Usually this default location is not suitable, so you have two choices:

  • Remove the database and create a new one in the desired path
  • Move the existing database to the desired path

To move a database to a new location use the Move-DatabasePath cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell.

CISCO IOS-XE warning

WARNING: Command has been added to the configuration using a type 5 password. However, type 5 passwords will soon be deprecated. Migrate to a supported password type

WARNING: Command has been added to the configuration using a type 7 password. However, type 7 passwords will soon be deprecated. Migrate to a supported password type

What it says is this: At some point in the future, IOS-XE won’t store plaintext passwords in running-config or startup-config anymore. It will only store hashed passwords (for authentication purposes when the knowledge of the password plaintext isn’t needed anymore) and securely encrypted passwords (for those passwords whose original plaintext still needs to be recoverable).

Secure encrypted passwords, also known as Type-6 passwords, can be enabled on the device using the following commands:

!
conf t
 configure terminal
 key config-key password-encryption
 password encryption aes
end
!

The key config-key password-encryption command will prompt you for a master key that will subsequently be used to encrypt all passwords in the configuration where this encryption is supported, including TACACS+ keys. The encryption of these passwords will be the enabled using the password encryption aes command – without this command, the master key may be configured but will not be used to protect the passwords in the configuration.
This is described in a couple of documents out there,
including https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security-vpn/ipsec-negotiation-ike-protocols/46420-pre-sh-keys-ios-rtr-cfg.html

adobe flash is going away is your vmware environment and it organization ready for it

Adobe Flash is going away, is your VMware environment and IT Organization ready for it?

Hopefully this news should not come as a surprise to anyone but at the end of this year (December 31, 2020), Adobe and all mainstream web browsers will remove Flash functionality preventing users from interacting with any Flash-based web applications. This will also impact usage of VMware products that still uses Flash such as older versions of vSphere with the vSphere Flash Web Client or vCloud Director with their Flash-based Tenant UI as an example.
